MovieMaster runs on any reasonable shared hosting or VPS. Here's what you need before installing.
Minimum #
- PHP 8.2 or higher (8.3 recommended), with the usual extensions of a modern shared hosting:
pdo, mbstring, gdorimagick, curl, zip, intl. - Database: MySQL 5.7+/8 or MariaDB 10.4+. SQLite works for testing or small catalogs, but isn't recommended in production under real traffic.
- Web server: Apache (with
mod_rewriteand.htaccesssupport) or nginx. - Disk space: depends on catalog size. Images are compressed automatically (AVIF), but a large catalog with thousands of titles can take up several GB.
- Cron: the ability to schedule a task every minute (
crontabor your hosting panel's "Cron Jobs").
Recommended #
- HTTPS enabled from day one: the site works without it, but SEO, the PWA and several security headers assume it's there.
- PHP's OPcache enabled on the server, so the site responds fast under load.
- A plan with dedicated or reasonably bursty CPU if you're going to import a large catalog for the first time: the TMDB import is the most intensive task.
What you don't need #
- No Node.js and no build step on the server: the CSS and JS already come generated in the package you download.
- No Redis or any external service to get started (there's an optional Redis cache plugin if your hosting offers it).
- No video servers of your own to install: you connect those later, per title, from the panel.
If your hosting meets this, continue with the installation guide.
