The TMDB Import plugin ships enabled by default and is the recommended way to build your catalog.
Get your API key #
Create a free account on TMDB and generate an API key from your profile. Paste it under Settings → Plugins → TMDB Import.
Adding a single title #
From any panel screen with the Add from TMDB button, you can paste:
- The name of a movie or series (shows matching results to pick from).
- A TMDB URL (
themoviedb.org/movie/...or/tv/...). - The numeric TMDB ID if you already know it.
MovieMaster automatically pulls in poster, backdrop, synopsis, cast, genres and, for series, every season and episode. Translation happens into every language active on your site.
Importing a large catalog #
For hundreds of titles, the plugin supports lists: paste a list of IDs or titles (one per line, in the form movie,603 or series,1399) and the import queues in the background, respecting your server's free disk space. Progress shows under TMDB Import → Status.
Automatic import #
You can leave a scheduled list so it imports itself, one batch per hour, without having to paste it again.
What TMDB doesn't provide #
TMDB doesn't give you video servers or playback links: that's content you connect on your own, title by title or in bulk (see the CSV import plugin). MovieMaster only organizes the catalog; where the video comes from is the site operator's responsibility.
Limits to keep in mind #
- Cast biographies almost never exist in Spanish on TMDB: MovieMaster leaves them empty instead of copying the English one.
- Some series' genres only exist in English even under other languages; MovieMaster translates where it can.
- TMDB has its own API key usage limits; if you're importing very large catalogs, do it gradually, not all at once.
